Mother's Day weekend

These are Wilton inspired designs. I bought 1Kg of sugarpaste and spent most of the week making the flowers. It was very therapeutic... keeping my mind off my laptop that wasn't working and the cost for spare parts.

2 cakes... 1 birthday

When you have a large extended family, and some are vegetarians, what do you do when a birthday comes around? You order 2 or more cakes, of course!

Dr Shyamala has to be my biggest supporter to date. She has yet to request only one cake when she makes an order. She usually leaves the flavours to me and I have a free hand at experimenting. So far it has all turned out good... touch wood!

This is a Peanut Butter Chocolate cake with Penut Butter Cream Cheese frosting. Very yums!














And of course an eggless cake... Carrot cake with Orange Cream Cheese frosting.

LTNB - long time no bake!

It's been a while since I got any orders. Oh well, it happens I guess. Thank goodness for family birthdays otherwise I'd forget what to do with butter, sugar, eggs and flour!

Two birthdays and an anniversary

I miss making these little fellas. I must say this batch were quite yums. Hmmmm... I wonder what I did different this time. Maybe it's because I've not had cake in a while.

Charity Drive for Johor flood victims - update

I was sent the following e-mail...

"We are please to report that the recent “Buy A Cake” charity drive was a success. With your efforts and help, we raised RM 881.00 just by the sale of the cakes and donations.

Management has agreed that the company will match that amount, and to top up (RM 1,119.00) so that Axon Malaysia’s total charity contribution equals RM 2,000.00

We will be donating the money to the Malaysian Medical Relief Society (MERCY Malaysia) – towards their Johor Flood Appeal.

I'm happy I did my bit although I was hoping to target 200 boxes. I suppose a total of 130 boxes for 2 days' work isn't all that bad after all. It was quite a bit of work for one person to handle and at the same time ensuring nothing but freshness to every single piece.

A dedication

Although it was ordered by someone else, I'd like to dedicate this Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake to James from Michigan. Don't drool on that keyboard now...!

Happy Birthday Allison

My niece Allison turns 9 today. Her classmates and teachers are getting a piece of good old fashioned chocolate cake.

Fund raising

I did my small bit to help the flood victims. I just can't imagine losing all your belongings and having your property damaged, must be hard.

To those who helped buy my cakes for charity, thank you. In total 130 boxes of either cake or cupcakes were sold. Here's a sneak of what each box contained. Some pics didn't turn out well... dang!

Anyways, it was either :

Samplers

I provided some cakes & cupcakes to a couple of delis to sample. Of course I only got good feedbacks *wink, wink*! One of them even sold them to 'test market', said it went in a flash! However, they already do sell cakes... so that's a NG. I'm still waiting to hear from the other deli. (Reply my SMS Paul!)

Chocolate Fudge cake

Mum turned 77 on the 5th. The family were getting together on the 6th for a scrumptious chinese dinner. And I thought, "Hey, this my chance to try out a new cake recipe!" Since I'm still unhappy with my chocolate cakes, why not make a good old fashioned chocolate cake.

I concentrated so much on how the cake would eventually taste and stressing that the choc fudge frosting wouldn't withhold the afternoon heat, I didn't pay much attention to the decoration.

Mum, I made you 10 years younger (look at cake pic again)! How truly embarrassing! Being 77, my Mum really didn't noticed nor cared. Of course, the others has a good laugh at my expense!

On an up note... I got the 2 thumbs-up from all 8 grandchildren (ranging from 2-21 years old) on the cake! They were the only ones not too stuffed to have dessert.

Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake

This was really, REALLY good, trust me! Many thanks to Audrey Cooks for the recipe. And the best part... no baking required! Lovely New Zealand strawberries helped loads with the zing!



We were too eager to tuck in I forgot to take a picture of the full cake. Only remembered when it reached this stage!
